Why the fee is not optional
A resort fee is mandatory and charged per room per night, whether or not you use the wi-fi, gym, or pool it nominally covers. It is not a deposit and it is not refundable if unused.
Why tax makes it worse
Clark County lodging tax applies to the resort fee as well as the room. A $55 fee is $62.36 once taxed — an extra $7.36 a night that never appears in a search result.
Where the savings actually are
Downtown and off-Strip properties often charge far lower fees and still park free. Moving your base can save more per night than hunting a cheaper rate at the same resort.
