What makes it distinctive

Conceived in 1941 and marrying couples since 1942, the Little Church of the West is a freestanding replica of an Old West mining-town church, cedar outside and California redwood inside, lit by four Victorian lamps the chapel believes came from nineteenth-century railroad cars. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and says it is the only such listing on the Strip, and it has been moved three times, most recently in 1996 to its current acre between Mandalay Bay and the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign. The chapel lists Betty Grable, Judy Garland, Richard Gere and Angelina Jolie among couples married here, and it appears in Elvis's film Viva Las Vegas. Officiant options run from a traditional minister to Elvis, Mini Elvis and Johnny Cash.

Who it suits

Choose the Little Church when you want a real historic building rather than a themed one, and a Strip address without the casino. The chapel takes 50 to 60 comfortably and 75 at most, and the garden seats 80, so it is one of the few classic chapels that handles a mid-sized guest list. Two things to plan around: guests are not allowed to take photos or video on the four lower packages, and every package includes a dollar credit toward photos rather than a set number of images, so ask what that credit actually buys. Weekend ceremonies carry a 10 percent surcharge.

Location and ceremony options

On the far south end of Las Vegas Boulevard at Russell Road, between Mandalay Bay and the Welcome sign. Ceremonies happen in the chapel or the outdoor Little Garden of the West; off-site packages go to the Las Vegas sign and the Harley-Davidson store. Ceremonies run 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Starting price and what it buys

The Elopement is $199 for the couple only, no guests or children, on Sunday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., in the chapel or garden, with a $50 credit toward printed or digital photos, a 30-day online gallery and a witness. Ace of Hearts is $299 for up to ten guests with a three-rose bouquet and a $50 credit. Neon Lights is $399 with no guest limits or guest fees and a $100 credit; Supernova Love is $695 with a limo for six; The Headliner is $995 and Desert Stardust is $1,495. Welcome-sign packages run $519 to $915 and include all digital photos and video. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays add a 10 percent weekend surcharge.

Fees and exclusions to price in

• Minister fee paid in cash: $60 on the smaller packages, $100 on The Headliner and Desert Stardust; a non-English officiant is $160 to $200

Photography and outside photographers

Every package carries a dollar credit toward prints or digital packages, from $50 on The Elopement to $250 on Desert Stardust, rather than a fixed number of images; the Welcome-sign packages include all digital photos and video. Photos are delivered the same day to an online gallery. Guests are not permitted to take photos or video during the Elopement, Ace of Hearts, Neon Lights and Supernova Love packages; from The Headliner up, guests may shoot from their seats during the ceremony but not during the posed session.
